What to do in
Bodrum Turkey
In Bodrum it possible to start your day sitting in sun, snorkel or scuba
diving in the sea. You can a ball touring all the historic sites, or
wonder around the many shops. Or you might go and sit in one of the cafe
shops or restaurants. However, when night falls, Bodrum “puts” on it other
face. Bodrum has one of the biggest and known discos in Europe. You can
find what you like in Bodrum.
If you come to Bodrum in September, know that a festival with many shows,
is taking place in town. Some of the shows are folklore shows, with
colorful cloths. Some of the performers come from outside Turkey. Many of
the shows take place in the Roman theater, in the open air.
Bodrum Night Life
Bodrum has a wide rang of night activities, with many bars and pubs. Some
of these places are almost at the bottom of the castle. One of the latest
“in” things in town is “Meyhane”. Basically it is a place for eating and
drinking, with Turkish music all night long. Many Turks, and non Turks go
to these places to listen to their favorite musicians, that come to Bodrum
in the summer. These place can be found mostly in the road to “Konacik”
and “Ortakent”. Dancing along the shows, is a common thing, with a lot of
food and drinks, and of course, fun.
The main bar streets are: Cumhuriyet- Caddesi, Neyzen, Tevfik- Caddesi and
Azmakbaşı. You can walk around, or move around with a Dolmuş, taxi or a
car. If you like to go to a disco (even if you do not), you must go to
Halikarnas, the biggest open roof disco in the middle east and Europe.
Entrance fee gives you, usually, one free drink, laser show, music,
excellent view of town and lot and lot of fun. It has an advanced sound
system and it is open from 22:00- 04:00. in addition to that, many of the
town's bars, pubs and shops, are open at night (especially in the summer).
If you are looking for authentic music, and or shows, you can find them in
one of the places in town next to the castle. Many of the shows start at
23:00. Just make your pick.

Shopping
When the tourist start coming to Bodrum, it's was small narrow market
streets, as a result of that, the shopping area became to crowded.
Thus, many businesses moved to other parts of town. In the old part of
town you can find a variety of shops, starting with cloths, foot ware,
music shops and jewelry. One of the new “hip” places is “Oasis” mall, at
the north of town, in a place called Gümbet. This is a clean spacious
place. Shopping here is easy, and not to expensive. The mall has in it
cafe shops, movie theaters, international brands and more. Another
shopping mall is Bodrum Karada Marina. It is the marina in town. It also
have international brands such as Levi's, Lacoste and more.
In town you can find leather coats, real sea sponges, blue glass beads
that the city is known for.
If you are looking to buy carpets and Turkish kilims, small hand made things, and
antique shops, be aware of the Turkish law. It is very strict about
antique and artifacts of national importance. Before buying antique,
consult with the museum's staff, in the castle. Ask them to give you a
permit to take the things out of the country. Smugglers are punished
severely. This also goes for carpets and old kilims.
Bodrum Markets
Farmers and merchants from the Bodrum area, bring there goods for sale.
You can find fresh fruits and vegetables, cloths and more. Some of the
things can only be found in the Friday's market. Both markets are behind
the bus station. Other markets can be found in: Milas - Tuesday, Mumcular
- Sunday, Turgutreis – Saturday.
