Armutalan is attached to Marmaris. It is practically impossible to know when one ends, and another starts, if it wasn't for the small city signs. It has its own mayor, and it is part of the greater consul of the Riviera. The name Armutalan, means pear's grove, since in the past, most of the fruits that were growing here, were pears.

Armutalan has its charm and points of interest. Firstly, if you like hiking, there are few routs around it, through nature. An interesting rout, is the one leading to Asparan, just outside Armutalan, not to far from the hills surrounding the town. It is on the direction of the Knidos road. Another rout is the one leading to Beldibi. Go to the new Dutça road, and start walking toward the hill ahead of you. There is the old sire of Piscos (old Marmaris). One word of advice, ask for some guide lines from the tourist information, in Marmaris. Sometimes, a rout is closed due to weather conditions, Jandarm (the Turkish national guard, per Se). Do not go by yourself, and if you, please tell few people where you are going to

Armutalan background
Since 2000, or so, Armutalan had more then tripled in size, and it is still growing. Many Europeans move to Armutalan, buying house and some even opening a business there. Armutalan has its own mayor who gets elected every 4 years.

It is also the home of the former army's chief of Stuff Kenan Evren, who headed the army in the 1980's when the army got reed of the radical Muslim government. He is loved by many of the Turks, because it is thanks to him, that Turkey is secular now days.

Now days, the main source of income is tourism and real estate. In Armutalan there are many apartments, apart hotels, pensions, small hotels, 3-4 stars hotels, holiday villages, houses and villas for sell and more. Some parts of the town are more secluded and suave. Armutalan was able to keep a lot of its greenery, especially, pine trees. Though it is few minutes from Marmaris' center, it has its own fun places.

Armutalan culture and nightlife
You can find here many pubs, clubs, music, clothing shops, jewelry shops, sweets shops, restaurants, cafe shops, Turkish bath houses (Hamam), there are few outlets in town, few big supermarkets, night clubs, barber shops and more. Many times, the prices here are lower then thus of Marmaris. If you want to go to Marmaris or the sea, you can ether walk for a while, or take one of the Dolmuş services. The Dolmuş is blue and it has 4 routs: 1, 2, 3 and 4. like Marmaris, there are few football fields, where you can watch a night game, or even partake in one. Most places are open until late night, in the touristy season.

Armutalan has its old center, not to far from the home made style “Turkish Delight” (Lokum). You can always go on a tour of the factory, see how the Lokum is made, taste it, and even buy it, if you want. You can go to the city hall, where you can see some of the old houses of town. All the Armutalan's Dolmuş services, stop there, since it is the last stop

If you plan to go outside the Marmaris area to the villages around, than, you can go through Armutalan, taking one of the roads that go from it. When you go to Orhaniye, or one of the other places around, stop at the vista point just above Armutalan, and look down. Bring a camera with you.
