Marmaris, the towns and the villages around it, enjoy absolute autonomy running their business, including electing a mayor in the democratic elections. In the city there is base of the Turkish coastguard. Their role to guard not only the coasts of Marmaris, but also to make sure that the sea sport lovers, will obey the laws. In the old city, there is a bureau of the local Turkish tourism branch next to Anatolia cafe.

In Marmaris and most of Turkey, it is possible to you American dollar, English pound, Euro, Travel checks, and of course Turkish Lira. The Turkish currency is called Turkish Lira. Starting 1.1.05, the government erased six zeros from all currencies . So that 1,000,000 lira, became 1 new lira.

Credit Cards in Marmaris
You can use any of the major credit cards in Marmaris: Visa, Diners, MasterCard, American express. Most money machines (ATM) will let you take out money with your card. You can get Turkish lira, Dollars, English Pound, Euro and some other currencies as well.

Marmaris Money Change
Money Change agencies, are scattered throughout Marmaris, and also banks' where you can change money. It is recommended to compare between the different place, commissions and rates. Ask for a receipt. The exchange Rates might change change throughout the day.

Marmaris Coastguard
The Turkish coastguard was founded on1859, during the Ottoman empire's times, and as time past, it was transmuted to the Turkish navy. Since 1982 it was separated from the navy, to form the Turkish coastguard. It is another division of the Turkish army. Between its main roles it is possible to find conservation of environment, inspection on the territorial water of Turkey, inspection and guarding on the environment of flora in the sea, security and protection and inspection of boats Turkey's territorial water, sailing accidents, emergency cases, and first aid.

Marmaris has a big coastguard base. It is responsible for the Aegean sea.

Marmaris Police, the police of the movement
The Marmaris police activities and responsibilities are road and drivers control. While you drive, you should always carry your passport, driving license, and rental/ ownership contract.

In case of an accident
In case of an accident, you have to report to the local police station and or the Jandarm, and also to the local authority.

January 1^st is new year's day.
April 23^{rd is} independence day and children's day. Most of the stores act as usual.
May 19^th is the Atatürk's memorial day, and youth's sport day. Most of the stores act as usual.
August 30^th, victory day. Most of the stores act as usual.
October 29^th, republic day, which is like an independence day.

Turkey National holidays
The religious holidays in Turkey are determined according to the Muslim calendar, and they are from urines is immediate year:

Seker Bayrmi- It means sweet holiday, and it marks the completion of the Ramadan fasting. It continuous for 3 days. On this holiday, all government offices and banks are closed down.

Kurban Bayrmi- Starts 40 days after the Ramadan fasting fasting, and it continuous for 4 days. All government offices and banks are closed.

Ramadan- The Ramadan fasting continuous for 30 days. Tourists and many locals, continue their day to day activities, as usual. Government, banks and shopping facilities, are open as normal.
