The island Cleopatra and the village Gokova (Akyaka)
The Sedir island dwell in the gulf of Gokova. They consist of three islands: Palace island , known also in the name Cleopatra, the central island and the little island. Its former name was Kedrai. There are also three islands known by the name Sehir islands. They are situated at a distance of about 10 kilometers southwest from gulf of Gokova. On Cleopatra it is possible to see Greek and Roman ruins, that are known by the name Cedreai.

Sedir
gulf has the most interests beach in the world. The little grains are not sand, but actually billions of small fossils. Those fossils were created millions of years ago, and that still create electricity, now days. This phenomenon attracts tourists and romantics that are hoping to find cure to there illnesses. The island is covered olive trees and shrubs.

The reason that the island is also Cleopatra island, comes from folklore stories about queen Cleopatra and her Roman lover Mark Anthony. They used to meet on the island, in order to spend their time together. According to the story, queen Cleopatra fell in love with Mark Anthony's home, that he ordered to bring to the island sand from the Sahara desert, in order to make the beach more pleasant for them, and that queen Cleopatra will have good time there. Findings of white sand on the beach, are similar to the sand type in the Sahara, and as such support the story.

This important settlement, paid taxes to the sea pact of Attik- Delos. By the year of 450 b.c, it is occupied the island by Lisander from Isparta, and the inhabitants were sold as the slaves. Later on, they became part of the kingdom of Rhodes. By the year of 129 b.c it is occupied by the Romans which established the east province. In its eastern side, there is a palace, situated next to it are remnants of walls dated back to the Greeks and the Romans. The best preserved antiquities are of the little theater. Later on, the Dorians built a sanctifies to the god Apollo, which several hundred years later, served as infrastructure for a Christian basilica.

From the Cleopatra island there is a good vista point of the gulf, and also on the picturesque houses of Gekova village. Find a spot for you can observe these view, bring along a blanket, food, drinks and desserts, and have a picnic.

There is a clean passage between the land and the Saray island, when you arrive from southwest to the land. Of land depth is between 5 - 7 meters, in the hard sand. Because of the waves that come from the west, this cove is incompatible for passage, especially at night. There is a second northern passage to this passage, between the land and the tiny island Saray. It is the widest and cleanest passage, but be careful from the shallow water northern to Sehir island.

Orta island
enables a safe passage, if you stay in the center. Be careful of Ordek rocky western to the Sehir island, and the shallow water that start east to it, that continuous northward. There is no passage between Orta and the island Kucuk.

The beaches between Marmaris to Bodrum, are between the prettiest and attractive beaches in the world. In the those beaches there are coves and dry quarrel. Most of them are unapproachable from land. One of those beaches is the Gokova gulf. A comfortable place to start your cruise is the Çamli gulf. Therefore, many people choose to cruise in those. Sailing around beaches, is called sometimes "Blue Voyage”. It is recommended to stop on the way in the different coves to refresh, swim and to become one with nature and the environment.

Here several place you can stop and swim in:
Fenerli island, Cleopatra island, dolphins gulf, English harbor, Canak bay, in which you can see a copy of Hans Cristian Anderson's “little mermaid”, that was brought to the area.

Gokova
The Gokova village is opposite to the beautiful Gokova bay. Its colorful houses integrate with the surrounding very well. The village is next to the junction that leads to Dalaman airport, and to Muğla, the province's capital, to Bodrum, Pamukkale and more. In spite of its central location, the village succeeded in maintaining its rural look, its cleanliness and simple calm life. The village, that in the past relied on fishing as a means of existence, changed partially to agriculture and tourism, by converting some of the houses to rental units, and pensions.

In the village passes part of the old road that leads to Muğla junction. This road passes, and to dry the swamp that was once in the area. In spite of the prestigious villas that situated in the village, it has not lost its traditional spirit yet. Most of the buildings have an Ottoman construction style. Those buildings are usually two floors height. The bay is also a good place wind surfers. You can visit and benefit from the healing qualities of Kadin Azmagi (The woman's river). You will meet tortoises, water birds and other animals. In the area there are few coves that do not many many visitors, a thing that preserves there beauty and cleanliness. As already indicated, Cleopatra island, is adjacent to the village, so you will be able to visit the island and the village the same day.

Besides this, it is worthwhile to tour the area. One of the directions it is worthwhile to go to the road leading to Muğla. Along that road, are few places where you can stop and observation the gulf underneath. Permitted yourselves at list one stop on the way. You can continue to visit Muğla, in which there are public gardens, several museums that show the history of the area, art, science and more.
