There
are many daily tours you can do by yourself, or with a group, around
Marmaris. Here is a list with many of these activities:
Marmaris Shopping Guide
On a tour like this, you are usually taken to clothing
and leather shops, jewelry shops, “Turkish Delight” factory and more. You
will get to know the Bazaar, the “Bar street”, the farmers market and
more. These tours give you a chance to get the hang of Marmaris quickly,
its tempo in a way, that will help you find your way around Marmaris, by
yourself. If it is a privet tour, ask the guide to take you to special
place.
Marmaris Panoramic tours
In this tour you are driven around the Rivera in a bus.
It is a good way to know, not just Marmaris, but also the other towns
around it. This way you get to know more then the “ordinary” tourist. Some
of these tours stop in leather and jewelry shops, as well. There are photo
stops along the way, with explanation about the places you go through. You
can combine it with the shopping tour.
Marmaris hiking
Along
the Marmaris Içmeler road, there is a sign pointing to few hiking routs in
the hill around, camping site, road that go along Arkutca
river, for about 5100m'. You can take a different rout, turning towards
Armutalan, in a panoramic 4400m' high road. You walk through pine trees
forest, in clean air and wind from the sea. Before hiking, tell your
friends where you are going to. Do not go alone.
Marmaris Bicycle tour
Many people choose to see Marmaris on bicycles. Aside
from the many routs in Marmaris, you can always rent bicycles and tour the
area by yourself. This kind of tour is also good for families and people
with time on their side. Please remember to wear a helmet.
Nimra Island
It is also known as “Paradise Island”. It is on the way
to Yalanci Boağz, where the marina and the dock yards are. The road is men
made, and it connects the island to the main land. You can get there with
a Dolmuş from Tansaş. You get off the Dolmuş at its last stop, and then
start walking. You will get a chance to see Marmaris on the other side of
the bay, on one side. If you go to the other side, you will see the
Mediterranean. The island is home to many animals and especially birds. So
if you are an ornithologist, this is the place for you. However, parts of
the island is a military area, and a home to some people. So ask where you
can walk.
Marmaris Ruins
In Marmaris and around it, there are several ancient
sites. One of thus places is behind Tansaş. If you face the place, you
will see on the left side corner (next to the public toilets), a small
passage way, that leads to a street. If you keep on going striate, you
will come to a small garden with antiquities in it. It is open from 10:00
until 21:00. another place with ruins and a small museum, can be found in
the castle. The antiquities in the place are from different times, such as
Venetian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and more. One of the sections has
on display “day to day” artifacts from the Ottoman time. It is open from
08:30 until 12:00 and again from 13:00 until 17”30, except Friday. In
addition to that, you can go to the Marmaris amphitheater, that is also
being used for concerts and shows in the summer.

In
Amos area
There are
ruins from the Roman time, where there are some excavated antiquities and
some are still wait to be dugout. In Beldebi, there is an unexcavated site
named Physcus (Marmaris old name), in Asartepe site. Today we can only see
the city wall.
