Pamukkale, or as it is
also known “The Cotton Castle”, is about 4 hours drive from Marmaris. It
is one of the most visited attractions in the world. Going out of Marmaris,
north east, will bring you to the “Muğla” junction (after about 25
minutes). Instead of turning right towered the “Dalaman” airport, you need
to turn left. On the way, while you drive up the hill, you should stop at
one of the “Vista” points along the way. If the weather is nice, and not
hazy, you will be able to see the golf of “Gekova”, underneath. It is
possible to see the road you came with, as well. On you go, and after a
short drive, you will get to the city of “Muğla”. It is the province's
capital. The population in “Muğla” is about 1 million people. Just before
the city, you need to turn right, towered the village of “Tavşa”. It is in
the “Guinness world book of recorders” for having the biggest number of
mosques per capita.
The road to Pamukkale is covered with antiquities, from many periods such
as: bronze, Greek, Roman etc. on the way, you will come to the city of
Denizli, which is the capitol of the province, is located on the south -
east of Anatolia heights. The city's emblem is a rooster and it has around
800,000 people. Denizli has been populated since 5500 b.c. non stop. The
land around the city is fertile, with many water springs, hence its name.
This area is also rich in mineral deposits, that have created the “Onyx”
stone. This stone, comes in many colors, due to the different minerals, a
quality, that makes it a good stone for many types of jewelry, art
artifacts and more. On the way from Denizli to Pamukkale, there are some
work shops and galleries, with Onyx items for sell. Just before Pamukkale,
there is a big outlet for textile.
As you approach Pamukkale, you can see the
white terrace, piled up. These terrace were made by hot spring water
bubbling at the surface. The temperature is 35c°.
thanks to the topographical structure of the place, the water accumulate,
and stay in natural pools. According to scientists, this place is over 14
million years. Pamukkale was always popular with people, thanks to its
medicinal water. Because of that, Pamukkale became the center of a pagan
cult, where the ruins are today.

The springs water are believed to be good for many illnesses, such as
heart problems, nerves, arthritis, high blood pressure, rheumatism, skin
problems, eye diseases and more. If you drink the water while it is still
hot, it can help in stomach cramps. In a nut shell, a natural medical
center. At list that is the theory.
The city
was used, in the Roman times, as health center for the Roman rich. The
place is filled with typical ruins from the Roman empire. On one side, is
the Roman “Spa” and on the other side, is the “Necropolis” (the city of
the dead). The amphitheater on site, was part of the entertainment, that
was provided to the guests in Pamukkale. Many people come to Pamukkale for
more than a day. They stay in one of the hotels/motels around the site.

and pools, as well. The differences between the pools can be found in the
form of size, water temperature, and location on site. The site is active
in winter even when
it
snows. To learn more about the place, you can visit the museum, where
artifacts that were dug out here, can be found.
It is advised to bring
along bathing suet, hat, water and good mood, as well. In the summer, the
best time to come to Pamukkale is in the early hours of morning, to avoid
the heat and sun. in June- August, try to get there, until 10:28, since it
gets hot and dry quickly!!!

“Karahayit”
Village
In this
aria you can find more hot springs. The name of it is “Kirmizi Su” (red
water), with hotter water than thus of Pamukkale, but less carbon. Because
of that, there is less accumulation of residuals. The color of the water,
gives the red color to this site.
“Buldan”
Springs
The site's mineral water, can be found
at a distance of 2 k'. the hot and cold water, brings the site about 25
liter per minute. The water can be as hot as 190c', with CaCO3 and clear
drinkable water. It is said that the water is good for digestion problems
and jaundice. The springs altitude is about 600 m'. There are few more

“Karahayit
Springs”
The water source is in the city of
Karahayit, that is located about 5k' north to Pamukkale. Some of
Pamukkale's water also get to Karahayit. The water's composition is
similar to Pamukkale's water, but has less CO2, and its hotter. There are
3 water sources. The 1st is 420c' the 2nd is 500c
and the 3rd is 560c. The water is good for the heart, arthritis
high blood pressure, sciatica, rheumatism, skin and nerves conditions. The
water has calcium, sodium, iron, potassium, magnesium, carbon dioxide and
radioactive isotope 183. In the water are different oxidizing compounds,
that give the water many colors.
“Cizmeli
(Yenice)” Thermal Springs
it is next to the city Yenicekent,
16k' from “Buldan” county. It is next to the “Menderes” river. One rout to
the site is through the old city of “Tripolis”, and another one is through
Denizli. The site offers R&R facilities, with water temperature of 44c°.
The water contains carbon dioxide, sodium, sulfa, calcium and some
radioactive isotopes. The water is good for treating rheumatism, heart,
arthritis, skin conditions, and hemorrhoids inflammation.
Golemezli Mud Baths
This site is close to “Golemezli”
village. One of the water sources in the site, is being used for the mud
baths. The water temperature is between 35- 50c°. The water contains
sodium, sulfa , calcium and CO2 . It is good for skin conditions
treatment.
Babacik (Kabaagac)
Baths
It is in the village of “Kabaagac”,
and 3k' from “Tekke” village, water springs. There are 2 sulfa sources.
One's temperature is 43c° and the second is 62c°. they are rich in carbon
dioxide.
Tekke village Thermal
Springs
The water temperature is 80c°. The
site has baths and a swimming pool from the Roman times. The site's water
is good for treating rheumatism, skin diseases, arthritis and “feminine”
illnesses.
Kizildere Thermal Springs
The origin of this reddish water, can be found 11 k' from Saray
county. It has 3 water sources with temperature of 63°c, 65°c, 88°c. There
are 2 Turkish baths on site, a swimming pool and lockers. The water is
good against rheumatism and exhaustion.
