Starting with the blue trips at the south west side of Turkey, old
traditional Gulet wooden boats adapted to make these trips and later new boat
designs had done to make these trips more comfortable. Three traditional
Turkish boats became popular with their names as Gulet, Ketch,
and Trhandil. These names describe the hull of
the boats.
What is the Gulet ?
As a traditional Turkish wooden sailing
yacht, the Gulet is built for cruising. This modern version, is an
improvement of the ancient cargo bearing craft. This craft was used for
trade along the coast of Turkey. From this original design, a more
comfortable cruising vessel had evolved. Some also have air conditioned
and accommodation for up to 12-18 guests in self contained double
cabins. In other words, the Gulet is a full service hotel where every room
has a sea and panoramic view.
The classic Gulet, was once used by fisherman and sponge divers to
transport their catch. The meaning of the Gulet name is derives from the
French goelette
that mean schooner. The classic Gulet is best known
for its low-to-the-water profile and roomy hull, rounded aft.
In the original Gulet the rounded aft, of the design, limits the number of cabins which can be built. That is one reason why the Ayna Kig (flat-backed) style of Gulet is becoming increasingly popular as a charter vessel. The Gulets yachts are usually been made from pine, Teak - Iroko (West African Teak) and African mahogany.
The Gulet family type including also, the ketch, Trhandil, and schooner, with rigged steel and 2 masts. These wooden yacht are build with widely varying of sails system, and characterized by a wide, rounded stern with a large aft deck space.
Today, Gulets are used primarily with charters and various designs have
emerged. All of this designs come under the collective description of
wooden Gulet.

The Gulet boats are quite popular as a carousing and charters vassals, in other parts of the world except of Turkey, such as, USA, England, France, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, Maldives, Adriatic, Malta, Croatia, Russia, red sea, Spain, Caribbean. and others.
The Gulets are been used not only for a private cruising, but also for tourism purpose, in Charters brokers companies, and travel & tourism operators agencies as well.
