Marmaris
area, that also know as the Turkish Riviera, is one of the most beautiful
places in Turkey. This is also where many of the rich Turkish go for a
holiday. This area is also filled with many historical sites, and many
land and boat tours (you can see the Blue Cave for instance). A good way
for you to know the area, is to go on one of the
Blue Voyage
yachts charter. Marmaris and it's neighbor
Icmeler, has modern
facilities and international brands. One of these modern places, is Netsel
Marina with it's international brand name shops (Polo, Ralph Lauren, KC
and more). It is also called Beverly Hills by the locals. You can also
find among the many shops, Turkish traditional products, as well.
If you fancy good food, you can find it
here. You can either go into one of the local dinners and restaurants
and have local cuisine food, and or to one of the international gourmet
restaurants. If you're up to 5 stars hotel, Marmaris has them as well.

The city of Marmaris, who
was previously known as Physkos, lies where the Mediterranean sea and
the Aegean sea meet. It is believed that the first settlement in that
area, was about 3000 B.C. Marmaris with it's surrounding covered pine
trees hills, that starched all the way to the sea and it's beautiful
bays, makes Marmaris the crown jewel of Turkey.
The city is part of the province of Mugla and is located at the south-
west of Turkey. Marmaris is one of the biggest holiday resorts in
Turkey. South of Marmaris is the Mediterranean sea. North of the city,
is the gulf of Gokova. To the east lies the lake of Koyceiz and to the
west of Marmaris, is the Datca peninsula.Mugla, the province's capital, is about 60 k away from Marmaris. The
road to Mugla goes up a 900m' pine trees covered hill. Along the road
there are some Vista Points
from which you can look at the view below.
There many
things you can
see in Marmaris. Few of them are, the
Castle, that over looks the bay of Marmaris. The
colorful Bazar,
in the center of town. The
Netsel Marine,
next to the Bazar. You can visit also the
Ataturk Park.
Marmaris Castle-
It is believed that the castle, builder around 3000 BC. Alexander the
Grate had invaded the aria and with his mighty army, was able to take
control over this valuable strategic place. He then had the castle
repaired and placed few hundred soldiers in it. In 1522, Suleyman the
Kanuni Sultan had it
rebelled, when he invaded the island of Rhodes. In 1979, the restoration
of the castle, has been going on, when under the guidance of the
Ministry of Culture, it had changed into a museum. On the way back from
the castle, you might want to stop at one of the cafe shops and enjoy
the breath taking view.
Marmaris Bazaar-
The Bazaar, is considered by many, to be Marmaris real town center.
This colorful and active Bazaar (Which in angling means Market), lies in
front of the the beautiful bay. In the Bazaar you can find many jewelry
shops, along side with spice shops, carpet shops, restaurants (many of
them still prepare local food) and cafe shops as well. Don't be
surprised by all the invitations you get from shop owners, to have a cup
or two, of
Alma Cai
i.e. Apple Tea. It is all part of the famous Turkish hospitality.
Netsel Marina-
This marine is one of the biggest marinas in the Mediterranean sea.
Netzel marina
can
host a large numbers of Yachts with
many marine orientated facilities. It is also a home to the Netzel
marina's luxurious shopping center. This shopping center, is also called
Beverly Hills,
by the local people of Marmaris.
Ataturk Park-
This
park is located on the eastern side of Marmaris. It has a lovely beach
for swimming. You can see many frankincense trees, that rarely found
elsewhere in the world, with there delightful aroma, that you'll
remember for many days.
Along the water
front, you'll find many orange shaped like snack bars, where you can get
baked potatos, stuffed with salads, and more. Ice-cream (Dondurma, in
Turkish) venders. There are many restaurants to choose from. At the
town's marina, you can take a boat tour around the bay, or any of the
other day tours. Near the Bazaar you will find the Tansash net mall. You
can also find a Migros mall Turkey next to hotel Grand azur. When night falls,
the bars, discos and other entertainment places opens up. If you go, at
night through the Bazaar towards the Netsel marina, you will come accrues
the Bar Street. If you like dancing and not just drinking, you'll find
few discos and some nice pubs as well.
